TOP TEN TIPS FOR BOARDING AT OPS
- Bring pictures, postcards and photos to help make your area homely.
- Bring white or blue tack to put up your posters with.
- Be aware of any time difference you may have if your parent(s) live overseas.
(Try phoning during the day if you are homesick, as lessons after calling home will help take your mind off missing people at home. You will also be less tired and be able to communicate better.) - Everyone gets homesick at some point or other, so don’t worry if you miss people at home, we understand and will help you through.
- It will help you to know how to keep your things tidily.
- Bring a teddy if you would like!
- Name everything!
- Keep expensive and breakable items at home.
- Bring a good book or two for reading time.
- Once you’re here – get involved.
- Vive la difference! Enjoy what you have at school and enjoy what you have at home – there are brilliant bits of both!
This is generally on the first day of term, when you arrive at school.
What are the rules for boarding?
Not many!
- As long as you consider others and treat them how you would like to be treated yourself, you can’t go wrong.
- “Reading,” means reading a book. “Lights out” is no talking and time to sleep.
Mobile Phones
If you are an overseas boarder you can have a mobile phone in school as long as you use it sensibly and hand it in to matron (boys) and Miss Coventry (girls) after using it. Please make sure your phone is clearly named.
If I have something special where do I put it to keep it safe?
You have a bedside table where you can keep things such as books. There is also a school safe where you can leave valuables.
What should I do with any medicines I bring to school?
All medicines and vitamin supplements need to be handed to Matron when you get them. Make sure your medication is named.
